Volunteer Opportunities
There is no better way to be involved in you child's academic career than volunteering for our Program.  St. Francis Xavier Head Start offers a variety of ways in which parents can volunteer while helping our program meet its annual budget

When the federal government grants Head Start its funds, it actually allocates or gives 80% of those dollars to programs.  The other 20% is made up using in-kind dollars or volunteer services.  Based on Baltimore City Head Start guidelines, the hourly rate of $20.47 is calculated for volunteers serving in a non-professional capacity.  The rate for volunteers serving in the area of their profession is calculated at the rate they are paid in that particular field.

Every one wins when parents volunteer.  Parents gain employable skills, and get the opportunity to witness the day-to-day operation of the Program.  Children learn better when their parents are involved and the Program functions more efficiently.

To sign up and volunteer, see your child's teacher each month to verify that your name is on the monthly Head Start Volunteer Timesheet.  Teachers will calculate hour on a monthly basis.

Volunteers are needed to:

Serve as field trip chaperones

Serve as nap/toileting aids

Serve as mealtime aids

Make copies and do light filing

Serve on the Policy Committee

Serve on the Policy Council

Serving on planning committees for program events

Recruit families for the program
